Welcome to the web site of JP Pollak, software/ usability consultant and PhD student in Information Science at Cornell University. I work and conduct research in the area of Human-Computer Interaction, dealing with mobile applications, making sense of information, and modeling for complex data problems in health care and the life sciences. My current research interest lies in designing mobile social technologies that encourage healthy behaviors while improving data collection for care providers, which was also the topic of my Master's Thesis in Human-Computer Interaction. I hold a joint appointment with Weill Cornell Medical College where I conduct the patient-focused portion of my research.

This site may grow over time or it may not, depending largely on response and traffic. I've still got some work to do here, but my old site was so badly neglected and out-dated that simple one seems better than the alternative. I've also added a link to my photography site; I'm not a professional by trade or anything like that, but I shoot a lot of photos, and some of them turn out well and people buy them.

New: For some reason, there has been a substantial recent increase in the number of inquiries about Lineage, the pedigree visualization and analysis software I wrote almost 10 years ago. This software hasn't been supported or for sale in years (nor will it be), but I'm going to make Lineage freely available on this site for a while and see what happens. If you're into pedigrees, check it out.
